Andrew Loewen Canisius College Goal Mask

This is a mask I designed for a good friend of mine a few years back. Every detail on the mask was symbolic and representative of the stepping stones and sacrifices Andrew had to make to get to where he is today. Thanks to Andrew Loewen of Canisius College for the opportunity and to 560XLS for the photos.

3sixteen x Self Edge New York x Chapter and Verse Promotional Material

Here are a few pieces I have been working on in the last week or two. One thing, which was expected coming into this internship, is the fast paced environment. Not a lot of time to work through concepts. Sometimes you do have to go with your gut instinct which contrast my University experience of having ample time to flush through concepts.

Above are the pieces for the promotional material for Chapter & Verse for Market Week, 3sixteen Moving Sale and Self Edge New York Grand Opening.

Self Edge x Flat Head x Duncan Yo-Yo

I was given the opportunity to work with Kiya at Self Edge on an upcoming promotional Duncan Yo-Yo. Though the time frame was 5 hours from concept, execution, proof and revisions it was still a great learning opportunity and something I would have likely not done on my own.

N.E.R.D. Record Album

A University of Manitoba assignment requiring the design, construction and production to be down without the use of the computer aside from scanning. I chose N.E.R.D. and the album seeing sounds. Seeing Sounds came from the idea of synesthesia which is the involuntary joining in which the real information of one sense is accompanied by a perception in another sense. Essentially when senses are crossed over. So instead of tasting something you may experience a colour. So I wanted to play with this idea. I created by hand font and die cut it. I acquired some hand silk screened scratch and sniff wallpaper to inlay from a company called Flavour Paper. It came in scents like Tutti-Fruity, Cherry and Banana. I kept it minimal on the outside with just the band name because a side effect from synesthesia is an overwhelming feeling. For the inside I used metallic paper and silkscreen on lyrics to the song and song titles (as required within the assignment guidelines). I originally was going to do the type all by hand but chose to use the old style Dyno label makers and then hand render the CD title that appears on the inside.

Kerry Joseph/Ike Charlton T-Shirts and Identity

The first run of IceMan (Ike Charlton) and KJ4 (Kerry Joseph) shirts arrived. Had a kick off that was a great success. Shirts will be available online at www.ikecharlton0.com and www.kerryjoseph.com.

Aesop Fables Book

This was a University of Manitoba assignment. The requirements entailed that I create a book for Aesop's Fables and create illustrations and layout in the Modern style. I was inspired by the work of Vladimir Tatlin and his work with collage, photomontage, and enlarged letterforms. I was inspired by the industrial aspect of the period and made my cover out of tin, electrical tape, book binding tape and Chicago screws. The project was alot of fun to work on. The book is approximately 4" x 4".

Guide to Chess Openings Book Cover

The objective of this University of Manitoba assignment was to design a book cover for Ghostov Kasper's a Guide to Chess Openings using strictly type and three colours as the design elements. Also create an identity for the book publisher Bishop Chess Press (allowed an image).
